Imagine an important contract or sales proposal in the hands of your competitors.
Or how about your medical records, wills or almost any legal document in the possession of someone who could do you harm with those materials.
Well, did you know that the digital copier industry has had hard drives in their products since 2002 . Did you also know that the hard drive keeps an exact copy of everything the machine copies. What would happen if all your proprietary documents, as far back as eight years ago, could be brought up on a computer by simply plugging that copier’s hard drive in a port and calling forth your most private materials.
It just so happens that everyday companies trade in or trade up their copiers for newer models and never think to erase or remove the hard drive.
Watch the “youtube.com” video below from a CBS News story on the topic and learn just how prevalent this practice is in today’s business word. We hope it is helpful to you and your staff at the office. To view click on the URL below:
Bloggers Note: I was sent this in an email from a friend in Dallas. While managing commercial properties for Class A office and medical practitioners there have been many times a tenant will vacate a suite and simply leave the copier behind for the leasing company to pickup. This has left sensitive information on the copier available for all types of prying eyes and inquiring minds. . I am adding this article to my blog because I think it is important for word to get out about this little known security breach of any office operations.
